The Tide
micro-fiction on the beach. Prompt - The Tide—the ocean leaves a message you discover.
The shell had been given up by its resident long ago. Left to be churned into sand by the ocean. It had defied the water and made its way to the beach.
It needed to warn the surface dwellers of what lay ahead.
How would it tell them, it wondered. Deciding to jump, in the same way it did when it was inhabited, it hit against the ankle of a beach walker. She picked it up and put it against her ear.
“ I can hear something,” she said.
This might be my favorite so far🐚
Bring a back so many memories. I remember when I was on a nurse travel assignment in St. Petersburg, Florida, and I was picking up starfish and putting them back into the water gently. Some people walked up to me and said, why are you doing that, who cares? As I picked up one by one, I said “this one cares”! Thanks for bringing back many memories 🙏
